The Sound Post was founded in London in 1993 by the late Stephen Jocelyn, a professional cellist, who wanted to improve the quality of student instruments available in the UK. The Primavera range was introduced in 1995 and revolutionised the student violin market, by introducing for the first time styrofoam cases and tailpieces with integral adjusters as part of the outfit as well as a much improved quality of workmanship in the student violin. The Primavera (P200) was chosen as the Best Bowed instrument of 2005 at the MIA Awards and this achievement has been followed up with the Best Medium Sized Supplier Award 2007.

After researching what is available in the market place we have decided that The Sound Post offer the best range for student and professional musicians alike for quality and value for money.

Situated near the Mourne Mountains, Mourne Strings provides a high quality service to string players in the province, professional and amateur alike.

Our aim is to provide a personal service to customers in a friendly, non pressurised, studio environment where musicians and students will be able to experience a range of instruments and bows to find an instrument that meets their requirements. For the less experienced players, Nikki Johnston, a violin/viola tutor, will be able to play the chosen instruments to demonstrate the tone and quality of the instruments.

In conjunction with hand made instruments, we also offer a range of good quality, fully restored instruments, purchased from the more reputable auction houses in the UK and from contacts in Europe, for professional musicians and more advanced students.

We also provide a very competitively priced range of instruments, supplied by Soundpost Ltd, which are perfect for beginners, schools and colleges.

This is all backed up by a fully comprehensive repair and maintenance service.

Also available, is a wide selection of cases, bows and accessories, to include rosin, strings, tail pieces and shoulder rests.
